Comp Suite opened in Meridian Quay in 2011 with 128 rooms and a single gaming floor — small by design, at a time when most new casino hotels were racing to add towers. The founders had worked the floors of larger properties and wanted to build something a guest could actually get to know: the same dealers, the same host, the same table held for you at dinner.

That idea hasn't changed. Comp Suite still turns away expansion offers that would mean adding rooms without adding staff to match. The gaming lounge still closes at 4am rather than running through sunrise. The kitchens still buy from three regional suppliers instead of a national contract. None of it scales particularly well — that's rather the point.

Today the team is a little over 90 people, most of whom have been here more than five years. If you ask any of them what makes Comp Suite different from the casino hotels nearby, they'll likely tell you it's that nobody here is in a hurry.
